Czech Dance Showcase at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe 2013

The Czech Centre London, in association with Staropramen and in partnership with Nová síť, brought three extraordinary Czech contemporary dance performances - S/He Is Nancy Joe, One Step Before the Fall and What Is The Weight Of Your Desire? - to Fringe festival in Edinburgh 2013. Performances by three unique Czech dance groups Vertedance, Spitfire and Tantehorse took place in ZOO Venues for three weeks between August 2 and August 26. Organised in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic, Statni fond kultury CR, British Council in Prague and the Arts and Theatre Institute in Prague. Author of the video is Radim Letovsky. /// About the projects: Spitfire Company & DAMÚZA: One Step Before the Fall Captivating story of boxer Muhammad Ali combining a powerful dance with live music by the holder of Czech Grammy, Lenka Dusilova. Winner of the Dancer of the Year and Best Light Design awards at the Czech Dance Platform in 2013. Tantehorse: S/He Is Nancy Joe 'I was born a girl but I know it's a mistake'. A docu-dance, a unique style of street-ballet, hip hop, pop and lock. The Best Contemporary Dance 2012 according to The Washington Post. Nominated for the Czech Platform Dancer of the Year award in 2013. 'Her body is an element of surpassing wonder' (Sarah Kaufman). Vertedance: What Is the Weight of Your Desire? Four female dancers question the role of bodies, nudity and desire in a fusion of dance and music, the male and female principle, and the fragile contradiction between the intimate and the public. Winner of the Dance Piece of the Year and Dancer of the Year awards at the Czech Dance Platform 2012.
