In Arab language, „Rihla" means „Path to Knowledge". The three Muslim protagonists too set out on this journey symbolically in Tereza Engelova´s documentary. 13-year-old Nikola decied to convert to islam after having watched the TV series 1001 / Arab Nights. She likes the order and the fashion that accompanies this religion. With time, Nikola realises that her decision to become a Muslim might have more serious impact on her life that she could even imagine originally. Nikola S. is 20-year-old student attending two colleges. She converted to islam in the age of 16. Four years of life as a practiting Muslim in atheist Western society have led her to reflect on possibilities how to combine these worlds. The other way around, 17-year-old Sahrab was born in Muslim society. He came to study to the Czech Republic from Afghanistan four years ago. After having overcome initial cultural shock Sahrab has being sloving dilema whether he can or even wants to be the same person he once was at home. The documentary Rihla shows not only what it is like to be a Muslim in the Czech society. It also bring up the question whether islam is compatible with living in the western society.
