So I chose the beautiful city of Budapest, Hungary as my arrival city, my starting point on a two week trip around Central Europe. Instead of a hotel or hostel stay, I stay with a native Hungarian through Couchsurfing who greeted me with a warm, welcoming stay in Buda, the hilly side of Budapest showing me around Castle Hill. My first full day was spend walking along the Danube River, hiking up to the top of Gallert Hill where you have a decent panoramic view of the whole city. Back down, I crossed the Danube River on the infamous Chain Bridge walking along the river passing the Shoes on the Danube Memorial, Parliament Building onto Margit Island, a park on the Danube River where you can get away from the hustle and bustle, for sports, shows, relax near the fountain, or take a nice walk. At the end of the island I caught a quick brief glimpse at my first roman ruins underneath a highway then onto the famous Heroes Square back on the Pest side. To end the night right after a day long city hike, I set off for the Széchenyi thermal bath for a relaxing and refreshing dip in the outdoor thermal pool, one amazing experience for the winter temperatures. The final full day in Budapest was a cross over back into Pest exploring the streets and numerous parks and memorials throughout the city, heading back to Heroes Square and onto the Castle of Vajdahunyad, a castle that was built to celebrate 1,000 years of Hungary. Meeting up with my host, he lead me to the highest point of the city, Elisabeth Tower, which was unfortunately too foggy to see anything. And to end my day, I set off back into Pest after trying a Turo Rudi in search of a ruin bar for a brew. My final day, I said my goodbyes to my host and set off for a train en route to Vienna.
