In June 2012, Slovenské elektrárne, the subsidiary of the Enel Group, and Enel Sole, the leading Italian public lightning company, has teamed together to introduce the pilot LED public lighting system in one of the streets in the town of Pezinok, Slovakia. By then, Enel has already installed over 91,000 Archilede lamps in Europe, with an average decrease of electricity consumption by 51% and life-span of up to 70 000 hours (15 to 20 years of operation). In the end, longer life and higher energy efficiency lead to a substantial reduction of the municipal carbon footprint.
