Climate change means that Holland, situated largely below sea level, will be facing some additional challenges in the years ahead due to rising sea levels and unpredictable rain fall. Holland already has in place an innovative and impressive sea defense system. However, cities like Rotterdam expect that additional adaptations have to be made, such as building parking garages that double as water tanks and floatable buildings on the river banks. There are even plans for entire floating cities.
