Overlooking the river Arun and town of Arundel in the English county of West Sussex is Arundel Castle. Home to the Dukes of Norfolk and their ancestors for nearly 1,000 years it is one of the longest inhabited country houses in England. If you intend visiting the castle plan to arrive by midday, the castle covers a lot of ground and it takes a long time to see everything. The castle closes about 4:30 pm. There are four ticket prices which allow admission to various parts of the Castle. You can tour the Castle Grounds & Gardens & visit Fitzalan Chapel. Climb the steps to the Shell Keep and on up to the battlements. Explore the main rooms of the castle like the Library which has one of the finest Regency interiors, the Armoury with its collection of historic weaponry, the Drawing Room with its splendidly carved chimneypiece. See the stained glass windows, furniture, tapestries and rare collection of paintings by artists including Van Dyck, Gainsborough and Canaletto. Then finally climb the grand staircase to the Castle Bedrooms and Victorian bathrooms. Photography inside the Castle is not allowed for security reasons.
