Crossing Lincolnshire Part III This video is the third part of a long distance trip I made over the Easter weekend from Fricktal Schupfart (LSZI) near Basle in Switzerland to Wickenby (EGNW) near Lincoln in the United Kingdom to visit two friends. This was my first long distance cross country flight, my first international flight and my first flight across the English Channel. For the trip I hired a Diamond DA40 HB-SDJ from the Motorfluggruppe Fricktal (MFGF). This video shows a local sightseeing flight that I made with one of the friends I was visiting in Lincoln. We first flew over the city of Lincoln penetrating the MATZ between RAF Scampton and RAF Waddington. I had some trouble understanding the Waddington LARS controller initially because of the loud engine noise during take off climb and because I forgot to switch on the noise cancelling function of my headset. In the video the volume of the engine noise is turned down so the radio signal seems very clear but trust me I really could barely hear what she was saying until I turned on the noise cancelling. After over flying the city of Lincoln we circled over Cottam Power Station before turning south and overflying Newark on Trent and Grantham. We then turned east towards Boston and finally up to Skegness before heading back to Wickenby. We passed a lot of old RAF bases, of which Wickenby was also one. Most were closed but one near Newark on Trent was turned into a museum. This part of England was where most of the bombers were based during World War II hence the large number of airfields.
