Visit Great Yarmouth Maritime Festival, a free two-day event held on historical South Quay every September. www.maritime-festival.co.uk Held annually to celebrate Great Yarmouth's maritime past, present and future, this FREE two day event features shanty folk music on three stages along the 2 miles of the quay, maritime themed crafts and stalls, and tall ships to go aboard. Visitors can watch demonstrations of maritime skills such as knot tying, net mending and spinning, art and pottery is on display and fun street theatre includes Inner State and themed characters such as Maritime Festival mascot Horatio Herring, Mrs H, Lofty the Lighthouse, Admiral Lord Nelson and Lady Emma. A special marquee features offshore businesses, many of whom are sponsors of the event with details about careers in today's maritime industry, a sector with Great Yarmouth very much at the heart. Food and drink is also available on site, including Hemsby Herrings and traditional kippers. The Maritime Festival is run by Greater Yarmouth Tourist Authority, supported by Great Yarmouth Borough Council and Eastport UK.
