September 2014. Decided to make the most of the recent settled weather and fly from Lands End out to the Isles of Scilly. The journey was 26 miles over water and my friends followed behind with the boat to make sure everything went ok. We did it in under an hour with a light North East breeze helping push us along. Stayed below 500ft high so that i wouldnt be a problem to the airbus aircraft, and went well north of St Marys to avoid the take off and landing area for the planes. My landing on the beach at St Martin did not go to plan at all, the islands themselves give off a lot of thermal rising air, which is what seemed to lift me as i came into land on the beach with the engine off... then as i travelled out of the thermal it dropped me just short of my intended langing site in about 1ft of water. I did this trip without notifying Lands End air traffic control of my intended plans/expected landing site etc which was a mistake on my part, so apologies for any disruption caused that day.
