Stop For Maya is a 501(c)3 non-profit founded in the memory of Maya Hirsch, a four year old girl who was killed in Chicago in May 2006 by a driver who ignored a stop sign at a busy crosswalk. Stop For Maya is committed to advocating for pedestrian and bicyclist safety in and around the city of Chicago and to raising awareness of the need for all drivers to obey basic traffic safety laws.
Our 5th annual Walk for Maya will be held on Sunday, September 25, 2011 in Lincoln Park at the corner of Lincoln Park West and Belden. The funds raised at the walk will support Children's Memorial Hospital Heartlight Bereavement Program, which supports families who have lost loved ones in traumatic incidents, particularly children. All contributions will help develop programming to support the unique needs of medical providers, so they are better able to care for trauma victims and their families, and cope with their own emotional struggles.
