Martin, Scott and Steve embark on our first of a series of epic river trips. Challenge 1: Navigate the river Trent from Water Orton (Birmingham) to Nottingham city centre, a 60mile journey over three days. Needless to say, this didn't happen, a few hiccups along the way and a gross mis-judgement of speed meant we only made it half-way and had to travel home form Burton-on-trent. The idea of these trips are as follows: We take everything we need to survive for three days and an inflatable toy dinghy, this includes all sleeping and survival equipment, food and a small amount of water, or if you're Scott; a crate of beer. We then float down the river from a suitable starting location, camp where ever we can / have to and attempt to make it to a destination far away without dying, soaking our stuff or bursting our toy dinghy's on unsuspecting rocks or barbed wire. We live off the river and avoid civilization for three days. We drink the river water, cook with it and bath in it. This all sounds nice until you find out it's about 90% sewage effluent. Episode 1 included: attempting a massive challenge that none of us had any experience at, huge EA purification lakes to navigate around, lots of weirs, a private speedboat section and multiple swan attacks. The trips are amazing fun, pretty hardcore and require a serious amount of teamwork to overcome some of the obstacles along the way. Stay tuned for more adventures.
