As part of Kent Coastal Week, sponsored by Kent County Council, the Motor Tug Kent took some passengers for a trip along the River Medway on Sunday 28 October 2012. The MT Kent was built in 1948 by Richards Ironworks at Lowestoft for JP Knight Ltd of Rochester, Kent. At her launch, she was the most powerful single screw harbour tug in Great Britain with diesel propulsion. The Kent worked on the River Medway, ship-handling at Rochester, Chatham and Sheerness. Subsequently, she was contracted to other duties around the UK. Taken out of service in 1988, Kent has been lovingly restored to full working order by members of the South Eastern Tug Society, and is used for educational and promotional purposes all around the south east coast of England, and to near-continental ports. www.mtkent.org.uk
