We are starting a new 6 week series called Close Encounters. A.W. Tozer said that most who call themselves Christian do so more on the basis of belief than experience. But knowing God is not simply a matter of believing certain things about Him. Personal knowing goes beyond objective knowing. It involves engagement. It involes relationship. It involves the heart. Any authentic spiritual journey must spring from a direct, personal experience of God. So, over the next 6 weeks I want us to look at some of the up close and personal encounters Jesus has in the final days of his life. What happens when people encounter perfect love. Some embrace and are transformed by it. Some are afraid and resist and become deformed. What happens in one's life all depends on how they respond to Love when it is offered them. This week our text will come from John 12:1-8 as we look at love and risk.
