When I first touched Villa Lobos' 12 Etudes, I had no idea that there is a manuscript version of his work until my teacher, Mr. Devin, introduced me to Nicholas Ciraldo's album on the manuscript version. As I followed along with the recording, I realized that there were so many unnecessary changes that the current, and most popular, Max Eschig version did. WHY? Therefore, I started to practice the "real" version of the 12 Etudes. The funny thing is: the manuscript also has fingerings written in, which benefits people who are learning these Etudes tremendously. Thus, I strongly encourage everyone to learn the Etudes from the manuscript. You can find the manuscript and download it for free at IMSLP.org. I hope you enjoy it.
