Home made Apple Wine - cheap, simple, perfect for a beginner

For its speed and simplicity of making, this wine is perfect for a wine making novice. The low cost of ingredients also make it a great every-day wine. Ideally you will need a couple of demijohns and syphon tubing. I got the wine box from www.brew2bottle.co.uk Ingredients: 4 to 5 litres of cheap, clear apple juice; 30g oak chips (optional); 530g sugar; a sachet of wine yeast; half a campden tablet. I used 530g sugar because my apple juice had an original gravity of 1.046 and I wanted to raise the gravity to about 1.090 for a resulting wine of around 12% abv. If I were bottling the wine for longer storage (this one's for immediate consumption) I would have added potassium sorbate as well as the campden; campden kills yeast, potassium sorbate prevents fermentation from organisms that may contaminate the wine (wild yeasts etc)
