This film reveals interdependencies between intensive agriculture and climate change that were scarcely recognised until recently. Agriculture generates around 17 to 32 percent of greenhouse gas emissions globally practically one third of total emissions and there is hardly any strategy to fight it. On the other hand, we know about agricultural techniques in the Amazonas that yielded large expanses of soil extremely rich in humus (terra preta) and humus can bind large quantities of CO2. Researchers are now trying to unravel the secret of sustainably fertile soil and find solutions for building up humus in our agriculture too. Here, field trials in the Styrian Eco-region of Kaindorf play a key role. Good humus can aid the climate.
