Battle of the Brush XVII: Season 4 Episode 2 Winning Team Member Jolayne Devente North Vancouver native, Jolayne Devente has grown up with a special connection to unbridled Northshore nature. Jolayne’s youthful explorations drew her into this lush rainforest that was just beyond her back door. It was here that she was captivated by the broad spectrums of natural life and natural light. Tall cedars, expansive ferns and carpet mosses protected and camouflaged a rich West Coast creek habitat that gradually also became home to discarded shopping carts and cast-off building materials. These invitations for imagery were repeatedly extended to Jolayne. Layers of coastal mist that transform tiny droplets of water into magical prisms have invited her intense examination, and her palette for simple barks, rocks, leaves and petals has been enriched with complex strands of colour.
