There is a romantic allure about this city that drew me in so quickly, words cannot even describe. I spent a good 30 minutes at first, completely confused but eventually found my way to Florisdorf to my host, from Couchsurfing. After getting acquainted and settled in, I made my way to Prater, an amusement park opened year round. I rode the infamous Ferris Wheel or Wiener Riesenrad for beautiful views of the city skyline and beyond. This Ferris Wheel was also the filming location of the Bond film, The Living Daylights. Yes I'm a bond fan. With a failed attempt to meet up with my host for dinner, I wandered off into the Canal for some awesome graffitti, onto the St. Stephens Cathedral, Graben Street where my breath was taken completely away at the ambience as a whole. More beautiful architecture, the lighting, hanging holiday lights, shoppers, opera singer, and statues. I ended my night venturing around to the Hofburg Palace, the Austria National Library, and the Parliament Building before I headed back to my hosts house for a chat and a good nights rest. Next day and my only full day in Vienna, led me outside of Vienna about 22 km to the beautiful Kreuzenstein Castle which unfortunately happened to be closed, but was good enough to see from the outside. Hitchhiking back to the train station, I headed back to the city to see the Karlskirche, Hochstrahlbrunnen, the Belveder, and the huge Schonbrunn Palace. The highlight of my day and trip was my venture onto Donau Park and up to the top of the Donauturm, a free-standing structure with an observation tower. At the top, you are delivered with 360 panoramic views of the whole city. At the highest floor is a restaurant where I enjoyed a delicious Austrian Beer without realizing that the whole floor rotates itself. It was this moment of my trip that I truly wished I had a travel companion. I wished that my girlfriend was enjoying this view with me. Ironically, a song came on that reminded me of her. As if her spirit joined me at that table through the sounds of her favorite kind of music. Oddly but fortunately, It was a very overwhelmingly romantic and emotional feeling for me that forever changed my perspective in solo travel. Lastly, my final stop was the staatsoper to get a breif viewing of the Romeo and Julia play before I enjoyed another delicious Austrian beer with my fantastic host. Early next day, I locked the door and set off for my trip to Bratislava, Slovakia. People ask me what my favorite destination of my trip was, and as I remind myself that all my places have a different category of favorite to it, Vienna certainly and truly is a beautiful city as people had mentioned to me. It had a very strong feeling of love over me, a feeling I wish I had shared with my loved one. Hopefully one day, that loved one could return with me, to replay those romantic moments in a romantic city.
