Another performance of Psalm 91, this time with pianist & long-time friend Mark Graham playing beautifully. We ran through this about 3 times (ever) before performance and he added so much. Unfortunately, the early 1900's vintage Steinway piano literally had survived a flood decades ago and couldn't stay in tune for any length of time! When we practiced 1 hour prior to performance, it was fairly in-tune, and by performance it was sorely out of tune :( It still doesn't detract from the meaning of this beautiful song. Psalm 91 has one of the most beautiful and encouraging messages of any part of the bible. The Psalmist describes how God is our refuge and shelter and how he protects us. When we're with him, we have nothing to fear. He sets his angels about us to protect us. He won't allow disaster to come upon us. Because we love Him, he will rescue and protect us. We can call on him and he will answer. This psalm offers hope of survival. It is meant to encourage us that no matter how difficult the crisis, no matter how little time or preparation or even resources we might have, we can survive till better days arrive. This is the positive message God offers us. It is a plan for action in difficult times. And it ends with a very wonderful and loving promise from God! Listen for it...
