Mark Turrell, author of the book 'Scaling: Small, Smart Moves for Outsized Results', offered a more 'activist' brand of futurology that seeks to use 'scaling' as a tool to understand complex systems, intervene into them, and as such change outcomes and 'design' the future. While recognizing the inherent level of uncertainty in the design process, and the need to be humble, he also offered a number of compelling examples of small, 'local' initiatives that managed to cascade and 'tip' to produce major results.
