The Central Committee of the Communist Party in Czechoslovakia in the late 1950s was the investor and the Ministry of Military was the developer of a secret recreational resort designated to the prime representatives of communist establishment. The resort stretches in the woodlands on the banks of the Orlik Reservoir and contains hotel, restaurants, swimming pools, yacht club and number of architecturally unique villas. These houses of the Party bosses were most surprisingly not built by prominent communist architects but to the contrary the villas were designed by some of the most progressive architectural and engineering experts of the 1950s. These craftsmen were sentenced and purposely imprisoned so they would work on the state funded projects. The works on the summer resort in Vystrkov around the Orlik Reservoir were classified and the whole architectural documentation was destroyed. The works started in 1959 and the resort was finished in November 1963; this was the era of president Antonin Novotny. The area stretched over 470 hectares and was guarded thoroughly by the Presidential Guards. General public only learnt about this communist paradise after the fall of the regime in 1989 because it was registered in no maps. In early 90’s partly because of the lack of interest from the state, controversial businessmen / czech mafia bosses moved into the villas in the resort – Radovan Krejcir, Miroslav Provod, Frantisek Mrazek and others. Nowadays the area is owned by Jiri Cervinka, entrepreneur in contentious field of casino and lottery business. His dream is to wipe Vystrkov’s negative history and establish a successful holiday resort.
