The current Somali domestic fishery is valued at $135 million, according to our report, Securing Somali Fisheries. This number could increase through careful development of fisheries on underexploited fish stocks, such as sardines. Somalia could earn up to $17 million in licensing revenue from the foreign tuna fleet that is currently fishing with impunity in Somali waters. Even greater profits could be attained in the future through investing in development of infrastructure such as roads, cold storage, more hygienic processing, and training. Improvements like these would greatly benefit the livelihood security of Somali fishers. Read the report: securefisheries.org/report/securing-somali-fisheries Report Authors Sarah M. Glaser Paige M.
