Eating bugs and consuming insects as human food might sound bizarre or strange to westerners, but all over the world people practice entomophagy. Here in Vietnam's Central Highlands of Da Lat, farmers are raising crickets to supply the restaurants and they aren't able to meet demand. In fact, crickets might be reptile feed or bait to most of you in America or in the west, but they can be eaten as a great source of vitamins and protein that's also low in fat. Fried up, they taste just like sunflower seed shells and doesn't have a mushy inside at all. Some people eat them in protein bars and even in flour to bake cookies! This cricket farm is in close proximity to Elephant Falls and can easily be a part of your day trip away from Da Lat. Just hire a taxi or a motorbike driver or rent your own bike to explore. It's free to go in, but costs 10,000 Dong or so for all you can eat crickets. Do check this place out, I recommend it.
