The historical Zechariah prophesied for about 2 years around 520 BCE. Like Haggai, he focussed hope on Zerubbabel, grandson of King Jehoiachin. These writings were revised after the Persians ousted Zerubbabel. Hope shifted to the high priest, Joshua. The final chapters, Second Zechariah, are a later, apocalyptic addition.
