The accepted view is that the Deuteronomistic historian redacted earlier works. Omri and his son, Ahab were northern kings whose capital was Samaria. Both are mentioned in extra-biblical sources. Ahab's infamous wife, Jezebel was a Phoenician whose temple to Baal was targeted by the zealous Yahweh-only prophets, Elijah and Elisha. Around 842 BCE, an army general, Jehu led a military coup against Ahab, Jezebel, and the Baal priests and worshippers.
