Genesis School of the Arts

Genesis School of the Arts took over part of the town square in Copán Ruinas, Honduras, for a day to create this amazing chalk art piece. The area has a rich history of artistic expression and expertise; however, the government does not currently provide any funding for arts in public schools. Genesis is meeting this need by providing classes in music, dance, visual arts, cooking, and drama for the children and youth of Copán regardless of their ability to pay. The goal of the school is to allow these young people to experience the arts. The hope is that through Genesis, they will discover something beautiful: creativity. ChangeStream Media (ChangeStreamMedia.org) is a Seattle-based nonprofit that uses digital storytelling to spread important ideas and support innovative grassroots organizations in disadvantaged communities around the world. In spring of 2012, ChangeStream Media volunteers Hannah Whitmore and Michelle Kozlowski visited Genesis School of the Arts to document the amazing work they do. They were impressed by the talent and determination of the staff and their passion for passing the arts on to the next generation. Thanks to the staff, volunteers, and students of Genesis School of the Arts for sharing their time and creativity. Thanks to Duane Forrest for providing the original music. Thanks to ChangeStream Media volunteers Hannah Whitmore and Michelle Kozlowski for shooting and editing.
