Chromation
Welcome to "Chromation," a black and white tour of the Northwest. I have been wanting to do a black and white time lapse for a while, and here it finally is.
There is something truly beautiful about the Northwest, and part of that beauty is shaped by the weather. While I love clear skies for shooting stars, I am more and more drawn to the variety of weather phenomenon in the Northwest. I have spent many mornings in awe of splendid bank of Alto Cumulous clouds. Watching lenticulars come and go has become a new favorite pass time. And, seeing a cloud bank seem to continuously pour out of (or disappear into) a void spot in the sky has been the source of many hours of wonder.
The black and white processing, really brings all that out. When you take away the colour, all that is left are the details. And, it is these detail that really make a location, and a moment special.
I also wanted to do something out of respect for one of my largest photographic influences, "Bert Huntoon," who was shooting the back country of Washington State before the turn of the last Century. It is because of Bert's work that we have places like Artist Point, Picture Lake, and Chuckanut Drive. He wasn't flashy, he didn't spend a lot of time focusing on Comps and lighting. He simply went out there and took beautiful photographs nature, as it was. More than that, he was in the back country long before anyone else. He was a driving force for getting people interested in exploring some of the most famous high alpine locations in the state of Washington.
Most of the scenes were shot in Washington, and more than half were shot above 5,000 feet (otherwise known as my home away from home). There are 26 scenes shot over the past year and a half. To capture this footage, I covered over 70 miles of hiking with more than 25,000 feet of total elevation gain. And, most of this was done with a 65 lbs pack carrying over 30 pounds of camera equipment, including the Dynamic Perception Stage Zero Dolly. There were many sleepless nights shooting, and some fantastic mornings that followed.

Each sequence was processed and rendered directly out of Lightroom with the help of LRTimelapse. The final video was put together in Premiere.
