Harold Blair with the choir of The Dutch Choral Society - How Great Thou Art

submitted by Aussies 4 First nations on 08/02/15 1

First up, I must say that the sound quility of this track is a little below par...a bit noisy, and a rather low level recording, but, seeing as it's not a record you can find on every street corner, I think it's well worthwhile uploading it. Harold was an Australian aboriginal who grew up around Ipswich in Qld. He was the first indigenous Australian to gain a Diploma Of Music, and he became a music teacher at the Melbourne Conservatorium. Harold was also a lifelong champion of Aboriginal rights...he passed away in 1976 at the young age of 51. As a tribute, the federal seat of Blair, created in 1998 and centered around Ipswich, was named in his honour. This upload is from a three track E.P. issued in 1963 by Melbourne's Crest Records, CRT-7 EP-025. If you look at the scans, you'll see what appears to be Harold's autograph on the back cover. This upload is from the original EP. *** If you like my channel, why not SUBSCRIBE?
