For more than 40 years, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has been working hard to be good environmental stewards. During the past decade, those efforts have expanded to embrace sustainability -- an umbrella concept that encompasses energy, climate change and the environment to ensure that what we do today doesn't negatively impact tomorrow. Renewable energy is a major focus for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. It reduces greenhouse emissions and dependence on fossil fuels. The Corps is using alternative energy like biofuel, wind power, solar and hydropower. This renewable energy mix will provide 25 percent of the electricity used by the Corps.
