VIEW ROYAL - A Vancouver Island company is integrating geothermal technology into its newest townhouse development. Limona Construction says on average, its geothermal town homes in View Royal will reduce annual greenhouse gas emissions by 3 to 5 tons. The company says homeowners stand to save thousands of dollars on heating and cooling costs. Limona Construction has enlisted Geotility Geothermal Systems to provide engineering, design and geothermal installations for The Plateau townhouse development. At the heart of a geothermal system are one or more ground source heat pumps which operate in a manner similar to a common refrigerator. Unlike conventional heating systems that burn fossil fuels or use electricity to create heat, heat pumps simply move heat from one place to another. View Royal's mayor says The Plateau is an important part of the region's sustainability strategy. The first town homes should be ready by mid-summer 2010.
