These parents have some advice for parents of all elementary school-aged students. For kindergartners, don't sweat the small stuff in their learning speeds. Letters and numbers will come to them eventually, when they're ready. With first graders, invest in a lot of shorter books. This is the year they learn to read, and having books on hand at home will help them when practice, even when they're not in the classroom. For second graders, let your child be more independent. This year, they might start to have math quizzes or spelling tests. Help them prepare early on in the week with note cards or flash cards so that they don't fall into the habit of procrastination already. With third graders, let them read to you. Also find some math games that they like to help them study outside of school. In this grade, they really start to soak in information. For fourth graders, set a consistent amount of time each day for homework. They'll bring it home, and it will help them get it done faster if they know when and how they will go about it each day. Finally, for fifth graders, back off. Let your children experience the independence they'll need in middle school. While this practice can be hard as a parent, it's necessary to prepare them. This parenting advice will help with many young ages, so incorporate them into your daily routine for success!
