Determining a babies daytime sleep schedule can be difficult, but these newborn sleep tips can help ease their transition into blissful naps during the day as well as at night. Nighttime and day time sleep are interrelated and can affect one another in positive or negative ways. A baby who sleeps well during the night is more apt to sleep better during nap time, and vice versa. At four months old, babies should be taking between two to three naps per day, each one lasting a minimum of one hour. Shooting for longer naps between 1-1/2 and two hours is even better, giving you a more bubbly baby during the day. The first nap should occur 1-1/2 to two hours after your baby wakes up in the morning. Try putting him down for the same time each day to reinforce his baby sleep schedule. One or two p.m. are ideal times to put your four to 15 month old down for his afternoon nap. Edited versions of your nighttime bedtime routine can help put him to sleep faster, like a story or nursing. Keep your infants bedroom dark, cool, and comfortable to make napping a breeze. A consistent routine before naps sends him a clear message that it's time to sleep. Don't wait for signs that your baby is tired, and instead trust that your baby is ready to sleep around the same time each day. Longer naps as they get older are ideal for ensuring more hours of that important deep sleep. Your baby will be energetic and ready to play once more after the all-important naptime each day!
