Chilenismos

submitted by aidenzucker on 07/10/15 1

In which my delightful sister and I educate you in some of the phrases and vocabulary particular to Chile. It's a very brief introduction into some of the peculiarities that make up "chilean" by two people who have no claim whatsoever to the language! And the best part is: Half of these don't work outside of the country. Co-Starring my lovely sister *correction (proving that I'm still learning the language): it's porotos for beans. But it still sounds like boyfriend. *(16 Jan. 2015) Another note: this is by no means a comprehensive explanation of Chilean terminology or slang and if it is not already completely outdated, it will be soon. That's pretty much the nature of language: it changes. Notice something that's wrong, something you say differently? Comment! Discuss! Complain! Educate! But remember just because you don't say it like this doesn't mean that no one does. Everything that I included in this video I heard a Chilean say (and so I asked them about it). I have pretty mixed feelings about this video but still love the Chilean way of speaking (and my sister) so it'll stay up... Hopefully, you'll enjoy!
