Ciara, Jason Derulo, and Tinashe shut down the stage last night by putting on a show fit for a pop queen. Amidst the return of Ms. Jackson to the music world, BET honored Janet with the Ultimate Icon award for her contributions to music, dance, and visuals. The tribute was chuck full of Janet’s legendary dance steps performed by Tinashe, Jason Derulo, and Ciara which reminded us all exactly why Janet reigns supreme. Performing everything from “All For You” to my personal favorite “Rhythm Nation” the tribute performers TRULY outdid themselves along with a dance number by Janet’s new dancers for her Unbreakable tour who performed to her new song “No Sleep” at which point Janet made her way onto the stage to accept her award and was met with, you guessed it, a howling standing ovation. Everyone from Chris Brown to Nicki Minaj freaked out when janet made her way onto the stage and Nicki even whipped out her phone to take a photo of Ms. Jackson in true fangirl fashion. Legendary producers, Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis presented Janet with the award and rightfully so seeing that their collaboration with Janet was what started it all. Janet took the time to thank her fans, husband, Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, BET, and her family of course. And her parents were in there! So cute. A special night for Janet fans indeed and a perfect way to set the stage for her Unbreakable tour which kicks off in August. So what did you guys think about the Janet tribute?
