Besides coming preloaded with 38,000 golf courses and easily getting free updates forever over Wi-fi , the Garmin G8 is the first GPS for golf that incorporates the equivalent of SLOPE on a laser rangefinder. Golf course elevations are used to calculate a Plays Like distance to the target. (Very cool as long as you are not playing in a tournament that doesn’t allow it.) Other features: • A sharp 3 inch touch screen • A dedicated green view button that gives the green shape with surrounding hazards and the ability to manually set the pin position. • The ability to touch target any place on a hole, with a zoom feature that allows for greater precision. • Club Advice allows you to input the distances you hit your clubs and then recommends a club for each shot. • PinPointer will point you in the right direction when you can’t see the flag. • A scorecard that has everything you could want and it’s easy to use. It allows scoring and for up to four people per round and stores your history. For stats analysis, it connects effortlessly with Garmin Connect for some very interesting summaries. • Connection via Bluetooth with your iPhone if you want to receive notifications on the unit. • A rechargeable battery that should get through at minimum rounds of play. In short, we give it a bit thumbs up!
