Dan Esty, Professor of Environmental Law and Policy at Yale University, moderated the panel "Global solutions: Sub-national leadership and innovation" at Climate Week NYC Opening Day on September 22, 2014. Climate Week NYC, convened by The Climate Group (www.theclimategroup.org), is a key international platform for governments, businesses and civil society to collaborate on low carbon leadership, through a week filled with events, activities and high-profile meetings. Sub-national governments around the world are moving forward to develop a new generation of policies to deploy clean energy technologies, unlock private investment, and build greater climate resilience. Collectively, they amount to series of global policy experiments, which will shape the future climate and energy policy landscape. Vermont's Governor Peter Shumlin proudly pointed out: "We have more solar and green jobs than any other region". Québec's Premier Philippe Couillard said: "Our province incorporated carbon price in 2007, which sends a strong signal to business and consumers". City of Rio de Janeiro's Mayor Eduardo Paes underlined: "The biggest challenge of our time is the challenge of cooperation. we cannot address global challenges alone, without cooperation with the UN and national governments". City of Copenhagen's Lord Mayor Frank Jensen concluded: "I reject the idea that climate action makes cities less competitive". Read the Opening day report on The Climate Group website: ow.ly/C3U1A
