Germination of Seeds - Theory and Experiment - Science

Germination of Seeds We see many plants around us in our garden. But do you know how these plants are grown? The plant grows from a seed when it is provided with necessary conditions like water, temperature and carbon dioxide. This process of the seed sprouting into the plant with the help of ideal conditions is known as GERMINATION OF SEEDS. Let us perform a small experiment. Take a small pot from your garden and fill it with good soil. Then sow some seeds into the soil. The pot should be kept in a warm place so that it gets enough sunlight. Add some water to moisten the soil. Water the pot for a few days. After a week you'll notice a tiny plant sprouting out of the seed. All the conditions like temperature, water, sunlight and carbon dioxide were present for the seeds to germinate.
