There is a lot of mystery and debate surrounding the Nong Khai Naga Fireball festival. Legend has it, the day after the end of Buddhist lent, the Naga serpent spits fireballs from the Mekong river in Phon Phisai Thailand. Scientist say this could be phosphine gas spontaneously combusting as it exits the water of the Mekong river. In order for this to happen it has to be a full moon along with a myriad of other circumstances. The contrarians (and a Thai documentary) claim that Loas soldiers from across the boarder are firing tracer rounds. You be the judge. What really are the Naga fireballs? Regardless of a conclusion, this is an absolute blast of a festival, and amazing to witness.
