Moved the girls to a pen where there's is more human and animal activity, and they had less space to flee and pace. I read Dr. Seuss and recited the poem "The Jabberwalky"... over and over. The rhythms seemed to soothe them and I used the rhythms to calm them when I stood and moved around the pen. I was careful not to make sudden movements but I did exaggerate the tone and volume of my voice each reading to get them used to a variety of human sounds. I wanted them to be aware that laughing and high pitched praise was not a bad thing. They were finally able to relax, lay down, doze and take food as I offered it. They are coming around. Laurel (Lighter) will get closer, but Maggie (darker) is less intimidated overall and will approach closer for a treat.
