How to Socialize a Puppy to New Objects-Creating a 'Bombproof' Service Dog

submitted by Read More About it on 06/05/15 1

Early socializing is a key part of preparing your puppy for life and especially important for service dogs who need to be resilient and unruffled in public at all times. Just a few minutes each day with different objects, animals and people in different environments can help protect your dog from being fearful as an adult. In this video, I show the general process that can be used for all non-living objects. I didn't need to use treats as the pup is confident and happy interacting. If she was to start showing fear, I would pair the object with the treats. Positive Reinforcement helps to build confidence in puppies at this age. This window is small, between 7 and 12 to 16 weeks, depending on the breed and individual puppy. Here is a checklist to get you started. www.discdoggin.com/DrYinPupSocializationList.pdf Check out more videos at: www.dogvideoindex.blogspot.com Help us caption & translate this video! amara.org/v/E6XU/
