Avoid shaving your dog in winter. His fur is his winter coat and will keep him warm. If you bathe your dog, ensure to dry him thoroughly before taking him out. For short-haired dogs, consider getting a coat or a sweater. 9. If your dog is out in snow or ice, thoroughly clean off his stomach, legs and paws to prevent him from licking antifreeze, salt or other harmful chemicals, and bleeding from encrusted snow or ice. You also want to prevent dog frostbite. 10. Ensure your dog wears ID tags at all times and is on leash on snow, ice or snowstorms. In these conditions, they can lose their scent and get lost. More dogs are lost during the winter than any other season.
