Learning not to bark around other dogs

submitted by DogTraining on 05/27/15 1

Loppa was a reactive puppy and we found out she is fearful of many things. Sometimes her barking is because of fear but also as many dogs of her breed really wants to interact with other dogs when she sees them. It's insecurity mixed with excitement. She barked to a level of stress that she would not eat treats was lunging, pulling and not able to focus. I don't think I captured as much of her actual reactivity as I would have wanted to on video and typically forgot the camera when we had finished training her and she was doing some obedience and giving attention right next to the other dogs. However I hope this video serves to show a little bit of how we trained her to stop barking without using any punishment other than managing the environment and not reinforcing the bad behaviour. I have noticed the sound in some videos on YouTube is not correct and so is the case it would seem in parts here where the click appears to come much later than it did, whether it's just my computer or not I don't know. You get the idea though of how our training was done. Please see the following sites for more information: www.clickertraining.com functionalrewards.com and controlunleashed.net
