Following the example of Sunadomari Shihan we use three distinct states of being to provide contrast so we can more readily find the one that permits a flood of ki from our center to our partner. The three states of being are aligned with typical attack responses. Using force is fighting back with a constricted flow of ki and produces struggle. Going limp is a withdrawal of ki and akin to giving up, and it invites annihilation. The profound state of makaseru, in which trust and other characteristics of love pervade the system, allow a flood of ki to connect the centers of the partners and produces aiki.
