Takemusu Aiki Originates From the Attack - not a technique

submitted by Carl Desousa-Oldenburg on 05/25/15 1

Part of a seminar in Tulsa Oklahoma, this clip explores the nature of effortless, harmonious aikido based on the nature of the attack rather than a preconceived technique being applied to the attacker. An attack that is met with an predetermined technique may quickly be changed or retracted when the attacker feels resistance to his need to connect or when his limbic system signals to him that he is in danger (from the technique being applied). In take musu aiki, the attack dictates, through the aikidoist's harmonizing just how the aikido will spontaneously manifest, allowing the attacker's intention to take him to the ground rather than the intention of the aikidoist making him go there.
