Hans had no technique for the direct flow of energy I projected relentlessly (if at reduced intensity) to his central core. Yet through a change in consciousness to a beneficent intention the natural flow of aiki happens between us rather than him throwing me, which he may not necessarily have the physical capacity to do effectively. In the first two resolutions, Hans produced a state of beneficent intention by wanting to give me a drink. At first his limbic system triggered a withdrawal when he felt resistance, and his consciousness shifted to his analysis of the problem. However, the flood of ki that accompanies a beneficent intention has a natural effect on the energy of the attack. That was why when Hans doesn't let the idea that he is meeting resistance interfere with his desire that uke be nourished, the aiki creates a path nage and uke create together. In the second part the attacks are less conventional, and Hans, having no technique to apply except to expand his field of beneficence uses the idea of removing a deadly wasp from my cheek to allow aiki to manifest from the combination of our energy. Many thanks to practice partner Hans Meerendonk.
