Aiki-Lab maintaining clear attack intention

submitted by Carl Desousa-Oldenburg on 05/25/15 1

From 2015 Vancouver Winter Seminar, participants explore the nature of embodied conflict intentions in this ukemi-based training system. For aikido to result in an "aiki resolution" (what others call a fall or throw) an attack must be maintained through "spear" intention, that is an intention by the uke to energetically connect to the central core of the target. "Spear" energy - directly connecting to and through target's central core (attack) "Shield" energy - connecting to the point of the other's energy extension, not the central core (defense) "Withdrawal" of energy - retracting of energy into participant's central core (retreat, escape) for Aiki-lab aiki resolution to take place without collusive ukemi, attack is maintained by uke while nage expresses the energetic field of beneficent intention
