Stand up for the Deep

Stand up for the Deep In the deep ocean, species are characterized by slow growth and few offspring, making them very vulnerable to overfishing. However, the EU fleet in the North-East Atlantic fishes down to depths of 1,500 m and bottom fishing gears destroy thousand-year-old corals and sponge beds. Up to 80% of trawl catches are discarded and thrown away dead.
