SING: Calgary Public Library Growing Readers PSA Series

submitted by Tom Schween on 04/22/15 1

The Calgary Public Library developed a series of commercials to promote the five behaviours essential to developing language and pre-reading skills: talking, singing, reading, writing, and playing. Singing slows down language so that children pay attention to the rhythms and rhymes of spoken words. Singing helps children break down words so that they can hear the individual sounds and syllables. Singing to babies and young children helps them learn words and develop their listening skills. The Calgary Public Library is dedicated to 'Growing Readers'. For more information on how you can develop your child's early literacy skills, visit your local Calgary Public Library branch or log onto calgarypubliclibrary.com.
