An Executrix to the estate said, "I remember being a child and driving past the place with my parents and seeing lines of people waiting outside and around the building to eat." In the early 80′s the back dining room was built and the Neptune expanded. The Neptune has made many memories for the family. The Executrix told us about how, "remember playing with my toys in the back room, playing waitress and feeding my dolls salad from the salad bar, our family holidays (Thanksgiving and Christmas were all held in the Blue Room), our huge New Year's Eve parties where people waited in lines to get in past 12:00, Birthday parties, bridal showers, baby showers and finally my son's 1st birthday was the last party my family held here. " The Neptune has been a hallmark in the community and more than just a family restaurant. I was told by the Executrix that the Neptune employed many at some point in their life and that the Neptune donated and held fundraisers to help local churches, the ASPCA, shelters, local schools, political gatherings. The Executrix shared with me that the Neptune provided a fortunate lifestyle for the family. Vacations to Europe and Mexico at least twice a year, a beach house at the Jersey shore, new cars (Ferraris and Mercedes), private plane rentals to go shopping for the day in Boston, the finest boarding schools, colleges, graduate schools all were possible because of the Neptune. The Neptune was a longstanding successful restaurant for 40 years. Other world famous restaurants (the Russian Tea Room, Tavern on the Green, etc.) never had such a long run of success, without closing down or switching owners, the way the Neptune has.
