David Glenn of davidglennrecording.com and theproaudiofiles.com. In today's video I'm gonna show you a little workaround I use when I'm trying to find samples, whether it's a kick, snare, special effects. Anything like that. I want to be able to cycle through quickly. This is no bash on Steven Slate's Trigger or Kontakt, or any of these programs that I use day in and day out, but I just don't like the way that they're browser works within the plugin. So I'm gonna jump in and show you. Let's actually pull up and, actually first let's play what I want to find this sample for. And then I'll show you how I use my little workaround. [music] So you can hear we have, you know, a good sounding kick. I've got a sub kick, a kick trigger already in there, but I want something with a little more, I don't know, something that I can really mangle and kind of blend into the mix to give it a little more beef. So, let's take a look, we've got Steven Slate's Trigger right here, and if I scroll down, we've got the beautiful Maio Collection from Matthew Weiss, and let's go to kicks and actually the Fat Maionase right there. So, if I'm gonna go in and I'm gonna blend a kick — I've duplicated the kick track — if I click on this [kick drums], K. I can click through, I can sample these kicks. Awesome. Great. It's actually working but I don't want to kick through and I don't want to have to use my mouse for that. So here's what I'm gonna do. I'm gonna close that bad boy up, and I'm gonna slide over my browser. And it's as easier as this. I'm gonna open up — kind of already know what the sound is that I'm going for here. I'm just gonna hit space bar on the Mac. [Kick drums]. Cool. And I think actually that's the one I went with. That stood out to me. So it's really as simple as that and then I'm gonna come over and note which ones I liked mentally, I'm just gonna take a quick mental note. Maybe if you're going through hundreds of samples write down the ones that stood out to you. And then you can go back over into Slate, come to where I want, if I remember correctly we got The Maio Collection kicks, and we've got the Fat Wobbler. Look, it's already loaded up. Here we go. We don't have to go through and click one at a time. Little tip, might help you out but let's take a listen to it now in the track. [music with sub kick + kick trigger + sample] Let's mute it again. [music with sub kick + kick trigger] And then unmute it. [music with sub kick + kick trigger] Cool. And then if I remember correctly I distorted the crap out of this one. Let's do that, a little room sound. Now let's here it without it. [music with sub kick + kick trigger] Cool. And then with it. [music with sub kick + kick trigger + sample + room sound and distortion] Solo it. Right? So, less about that more about my little workaround, but if you guys aren't using Mac and shifting through the different samples like that, man, it's so much quicker and you can really get a better idea. So, hope you guys are doing well, and we'll catch you in the next one.
